Welcome to Vu-Bridge Defense Level 1, Issue 20. We have three series for you this month. One is from the prolific author David Bird, presenting some challenging problem hands. Another is written by Paul Bowyer, a long standing contributor to Vu-Bridge and an excellent teacher of the game, here to help you realise a greater level of defensive accuracy by counting, constructing the hand and finding a way out of certain tricky situations. Last of all I have made a series which is all about counting declarer’s tricks and realising when it’s cash-out time.
In addition, Matthias Huberschwiller brings you two quizzes to aid your opening leads, one for suit contracts and another for No-trumps.
Altogether you can help yourself to three series, including a total of twenty informative and well thought-through hands, and if that doesn’t sate your appetite there are a couple of quizzes to boot
